World War 2 Stories - The F6F Hellcat is considered as one of the best fighter planes of the US Navy to counter the Japanese Zeros. World War Stories - When Obama took office in November of 2008, America shows the world that they erase the history of racism toward its minorities. The world has witnessed a new face of in the Western world and that opens the eyes to the many blacks and browns in the West. Although the first black president of America faced so many criticisms from those who dissatisfied with his policies, a new form of racism has taken root. This new form of racism is about the West against the Brown and the Asians. We all know that most of the Western countries dislike the unstopping growth of the Brown and Asians in their countries and the worst thing is Asians and Brown people excelled on their careers in the West and in some European countries. Sooner or later America will be ruled by the Brown and the Asians and of course these people knows how to handle almost all the best for a country to improve. What is not good to hear is America is making ways to discriminate these people in many ways through their policies, and it is really bad. Many Asians work in the US with no work benefits and with low salaries and they never complain, but many Americans discriminate them in many ways, for instance if you are Muslim, Hispanic, or just well tanned, you are automatically labelled as suspect. If you are brown, it is now longer your right to board an airplane, drive a car or go to a hospital. Mexicans also felt the same discrimination even though they are making their own population in America for so long.

As an average American I actually feel sorry for many of the South Asians I encounter. Most will complain vigorously about racism and stereotyping that they face, but are incapable of understanding the correlation between this and the racism and stereotyping they inflict on others. But what I find to be truly sad is the level of self-loathing many carry internally. They seem to have an obsession with "light-skin" despite the fact that most of them of have dark-brown skin. Dangerous skin-lightening products are commonly used and brazenly marketed in South Asian communities. Images of South Asians in the media are often "photo-shopped" to make them appear lighter than they actually are. Its a shame that they have yet to have their own version of the "black is beautiful" movement.

The West is making a culture that White is superior and the rest are not, and that makes most brown and some south-east Asians to use what ever cosmetics to make them look white.

A former CIA agent takes CNN hosts out of their comfort zone and talks about the real reasons why they are in Libya now and what the real outcome may be. He says the fact the effort is NATO lead may fool Americans but won't fool Libyan anti-west supporters. He also mentions that we are supporting the same people we are fighting against in other middle east countries like Iraq and Afghanistan

When asks what the U.S. should do in Libya Michael Scheuer says "what Mr. Paul Suggested, don't go in at all". Referring to Congressman Ron Paul's stand against the illegal wars in Libya.

Opinion:

Of all the things had told by Former CIA Counter terrorism Analyst, Michael Scheuer may be true or not, however, I firmly believe that his analysis was not lie-coated. Provided with the controversy (Obama: to see who the opposition is, since I am a Political Science student, I don’t have any skeptical thoughts about the issue. I assumed that the action of President Obama was just inevitable being a political icon bearing with two (2) significant truths that normally gives pressure.

First and foremost, truth that the principal person who is involved of the issue and the one who did the act was only one person who is the Chief Executive of USA vested with a lot of executive powers. Obviously, I really mean President Barrack Obama. Due to the fact that he is the President of USA, he is a public officer, then accountable to the people. American people respected and trusted his being. They look him as man with capacity to govern a dominant country with strong democratic tradition since he successfully won the heart of American people during the election despite the ups and downs in the political sphere. Needless to say, President Obama has high-regard at the present time. Thus, we cannot say that he is not capable of doing some art of deception, although it sounds betrayal to the public. Consequently, it creates conflict between the public interest and the interest of a public servant but because he currently holds big responsibility to his country, he perceived his action as good although it implicates his presidency just to maintain the public trust. Besides, not only American people have faith in him but also, we Filipinos have inspired by his dominant personality and definitely, even the other people from different corners of the world. In short, President Obama’s great mission is to stabilize the economic status of USA at the top.

Secondly, because of the truth that USA is a dominant nation that has been influencing other nations. In other words, America is the superstar in the political arena. If I am wronged of that, I am sure that one of the western countries holds that title. We cannot deny that USA has some influences throughout the world in the field of culture, tradition, language, educational system political system, trade and industry, etc. Here comes out the so-called “HEGEMONY” which refers to the dominant influence of a nation over other nations. Maybe some of us deny the reality but the fact that we are almost totally influenced by America and other western countries is very evident in some ways. The way we speak, we dress, we behave with other people, we eat, and we look at other people, things and happenings. Probably, all the way in our lifestyle is affected. In fact, I partly admire yet envy America. Wanna know why? It is because of America’s convincing power, its inhabitant’s brilliant minds and its strong determination to stay on the top. Anyway, it doesn’t mean that Philippines have nothing that America has. It is just that the degree or level of difference between Philippines and America is noticeable and bothersome. That’s why America oftentimes holds the title of being developed. Aside from that, America is an instant developed country because like what had happened during 09/11/01 attacks. The damages were remarkable with high costs that lead to America’s economic collapse but still America got immediately recovered. However, I’m sure and strong enough to believe that Philippines has some potentials to probably stay in the center on the political arena by looking and noticing its human resources, natural resources and culture and tradition. Therefore, Philippines called as “developing country” in the sense that it slowly and continuously growing in some aspects.

On the other hand, I envy America because of its invulnerable stand. By that, other countries’ efforts and accomplishments have never been considered and noticed. It seems that there is no such thing as “isolation” because good luck oftentimes surrounding them. That envious feeling leads me to feel another negative feeling, and that is being sad because I have this fear in mind that what is really happening today might not be defeated. Maybe that will lead us to conclude someday that Philippines is not anymore what Philippines before but it looks like America but still inferior and dependent to America and other foreign countries. Also, I have this thought in mind that the hardship of fighting and ceasing against the real scenario today actually exists and further be experienced by us.

However, I believe that the act of generalizing and totalizing is a fallacy because we cannot put the facts together in a vacuum because we need to consider first a lot of things that are significant before getting into a quality analysis and conclusion. In other words, there is no only one side of truth.Furthermore, I don’t lose hope and still hoping that one day and for the next number of times, Philippines will be called as “rich and developed country” not only from the perspective and notion of the westerners but throughout the world.

As a conclusion, let’s go back to the core issue. President Obama’s action was just a matter of political struggle-politics. As I’ve mentioned earlier the phrase “art of deception”. I think it’s good to use sometimes but not all the time because everything which is unjustifiable means is not applicable throughout space and time. It yields disasters to the system. By simply recalling the discussion about public administration, as a matter of political struggle, President Obama’s part of action might be justifiable.

Firstly, let’s perceive political struggle in a positive way. Looking positively, it is intend to be exercised for good. Therefore, President Obama wanted to know the opposition (democracy-lovers) to still extend his power and influence to the other nations. President Obama needs to maintain America’s position on the top by controlling other nations by being aware of what’s happening in the political arena for him to think for the best actions to be executed next without the knowledge of the enemies. So, he was struggling for power not for himself but also for the whole American race, and of course, for United States of America. Who will dare to think badly for his target end is for good of America yet people (Americans and enemies) might be fooled of the truth behind his means. I think President Obama’s action is not totally justifiable because he is in public service, he should be known of his limitations. In fact, I have been observed that politics is a fair stiff competition. It is a race between minds. It involves wisdom, intelligence, and cleverness. But sometimes, politics can no longer be called as “fair” because there are other officials exercising either direct or indirect bribery, or any other violations that are violative to his oath and virtue of office.

Secondly, President Obama emphasizes the other side of politics, which is the struggle for power “’over” the expense and defeat of other nations. In that way, there is selfishness instead of working hand-in-hand together for the universal good and progress. President Obama was just nourishing his power and America’s power alone. He was just extending the gap between the poor and the rich countries. He was just worsening the situation.

Our world is in crisis, our world is engulfed in conflicts, our world is in the brink of a catastrophic and disastrous struggle which eventually will result in a war of annihilation and destruction of the whole human race.

If we bring back the pages of history, there was evolution and creation. Evolution taught us that man originated from animals and creation taught us that a Supernatural being created man. Both of these beliefs recognized the basic rights of every man to be free and choose what kind of life he wants to live and this is what we call freedom. But as time progressed, man developed in his well-being the capacity to invent new things in order to control the things of this world and little by little also begins to control the destiny of other men. That Supernatural being we call God gave and taught us FAITH, to believe in him, to follow him, to trust him in our whole life. On the other, evolution taught us that man being an animal has his own instinct to be able to comprehend and understand what is happening around him. Thus, the clash begins between Faith and Instinct.

In the annuals of history we were made to believe from a certain divine intervention through a book called The Holy Bible, that men were ruled by God through his chosen kings and prophets. One faith and governance interwoven into one, based on the precepts of the Holy Bible. On the other pages of human history, we learned from ancient Egyptian and Greek civilizations THE ART OF GOVERNANCE we call POLITICS. Politics was born as an Act of Governing people, their social, economic and cultural lives. From Faith was born RELIGION and from one religion sprung many different religion sects and beliefs. From POLITICS was born the many and different ways of governing peoples’ lives: Totalitarianism, Capitalism, Socialism/Communism, Shariah Law and many others.

From one faith was born many religions: Judaism, Catholicism, Islamic, Anglicanism, Protestantism and many others. All of them claiming to be the real recipient of God’s authentic revelations, fighting among themselves who is right and who is wrong. Thus, the conflict begins among all the religions, among its leaders and peoples of the whole world, who are in one way or another, belong to the different religions. All the religions of the world preached about acceptance and forgiveness, but none of them accept and forgives each other. Each religion clings to its own beliefs and teachings. There is no acceptance, there is no forgiveness until today and the conflict is worsening.

From the different religions would emerge Politicians who came with different opinions, beliefs and backgrounds. From the hands of the powerful politicians are entrusted the most dangerous weapons of mass destruction. They can use to protect their religions and political beliefs.

Religion and Politics, the sources of all the conflicts of this world. Religion and Politics are THE REAL DEVILS OF OUR SOCIETY. Without them there will be no conflict, no wars, there will never be destruction, There will never be annihilation of the human race. RELIGION and POLITICS together creates our ARMAGGEDON.

WW2: Corregidor Philippines Battle Fortress

World War 2- Corregidor is an island in the entrance of the Philippines' Manila Bay. Due to its position in the bay, it has served as a focal point for the naval defenses of the capital city of Manila. During World War II, Corregidor was the site of several battles and its fall to the Japanese forces was instrumental in the subsequent capture of the Philippines and the retreat of the United States in the early stages of the war. Currently, it is an important historic and tourist site and is managed under the jurisdiction of Cavite City.
The island is about 48 kilometers west of Manila. It is shaped like a sperm, with its tail running eastward, and has a land area of 9 km². Along with Caballo (which lies 2 km south of the "tail's" tip), it partially blocks the entrance to Manila Bay, and thus has strategic importance. It also creates a northern and southern entrance to the bay.
Because of its rocky landscape and the fortifications of Fort Mills, the island was also known as "the Rock".

Geography
Corregidor is a tadpole-shaped island four miles (6 km) long and about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) at its widest point, with a total area roughly about three square miles. Its bulbous head, which points towards the South China Sea rises prominently to a large flat called Topside. This was the nerve center of the Island and here was located the headquarters, barracks for enlisted personnel, officers quarters, underground ordnance shops, the traditional parade grounds, and the bulk of the batteries that constituted the strength of Corregidor.

Middleside

Middleside is a small plateau that interrupts the upward slope from Bottomside to Topside, and was the location of barracks for the enlisted men, a hospital, quarters for non-commissioned officers, a service club, and two schoolhouses—one for the children of Filipino soldiers and the other for American children.

Bottomside

Bottomside is the lower part of the island and is the neck that connects the tail and head of the island. South of Bottomside is Barrio San José (near what was Navy Beach); on the north is what was Army Dock, with its three large piers, and, east of Bottomside, is Malinta Tunnel.

Fortification

There were 23 batteries installed on Corregidor, consisting of 56 Coastal guns and mortars. In addition, Corregidor had 13 anti-aircraft artillery batteries with 76 guns (28 3-inch and 48 50-caliber) and 10 60-inch Sperry searchlights.
The longest-range coastal pieces were the two 12-inch (305 mm) guns of Batteries Hearn and Smith, with a horizontal range of 29,000 yards (27,000 m). Although capable of an all around traverse, these guns, due to their flat trajectories, were not effective for use against targets on Bataan.
During the siege, the island had ample armor-piercing ammunition but very little of the anti-personnel type, which then was of greatest demand for use against land targets on Bataan. In fact, most of the anti-personnel shells were only for the 12-inch mortars of Batteries Way and Geary.

Battery Way

Battery Way was named in honor of the Coast Artillery Corps of the U.S. Army, which along with Battery Geary, was the mainstay of the Corregidor Garrison during the Japanese invasion. Its mortars, capable of a 360-degree traverse, could fire on land targets at Bataan. They brought the most destruction on Japanese positions during the attempted landings on the southwest coast of Bataan late in January to the middle of February 1942. These mortars were silenced by enemy shelling in May 1942.

Battery Geary

Battery Geary was a battery of six 13-ton, 12-inch mortars. This battery, when pinpointed by the Japanese, was subjected to heavy shelling. One direct hit by a 240 mm shell, which detonated the magazines of this Battery in May 1942, proved to be the most crippling shot during the entire siege of Corregidor. This shelling tossed the mortars around, one to a distance of 150 yards (140 m), another was blown through three feet of reinforced concrete wall into the adjoining powder magazine of Battery Crockett. Large chunks of steel were blown as far as the Malinta Tunnel, killing 27 of the battery crew instantly. Also 1 mortar still has live round in its breech, it was in the process of firing a barrage when the magazine was hit.

The Battle for Corregidor was the culmination of the Japanese campaign for the conquest of the Philippines. The fall of Bataan in April 9, 1942 ended all organized opposition by the U.S. Army Forces – Far East (USAFFE) to the invading Japanese forces on Luzon in the northern Philippines. The island bastion of Corregidor, with its network of tunnels and formidable array of defensive armament, along with the fortifications across the entrance to Manila Bay, was the remaining obstacle to the 14th Japanese Imperial Army of Lieutenant General Masaharu Homma. Macross VF-1 resembles F-14 and it is considered as one of the most popular mobile suits in the anime world in the 80's. The VF-1 is definitely the classic of the Mobile suit generation, but the legacy never fades new models are sprouting in the latest series of Macross. Gundam series actually not new either, it has been in the anime world back in the early 80's. But at that time robots with swords were not cool, compared to mobile suits that transform to fighter jets. Now, kids are turning their heads to the more technologically advance mobile suits with great fire power and speed. The anime Gundam series introduced these great mobile suits with swords and shields and watching the series you will be able to witness the power of these mobile suits. Though there are so many great mobile suits in Gundam series but there is one which is considered the best of the best, the Gundam GN-001 Exia. Actually it is the upgraded version of Gundam GN-00 Exia.

The Gundam Exia is designed as a close quarters combat mobile suite (considered as the followup of Macross VF-1 Valkyrie) and it is considered as a 3rd generation of the Gundam mobile suits series. The Exia is the successor of Gundam Astraea, well if you try to check the specs of Exia it is more of Astraea. Though we can find many of Astraea influences still the Exia has its own differences from its weaponry and its overall system. Hence it is designed for CQC role, its legs was given the best human articulation as possible for best movement and to improve its AMBAC or Active Mass Balance Auto Control. The Vietnam civilians were the ones affected by the War and not the soldiers of both sides. There were thousands of Vietnamese killed and were homeless during the non-stop bombing and assault by US forces. Majority of these civilians gave their support to the Viet cong and the Vietnam People's Army ( North Vietnam Army), than the South Vietnam. The American bombings to the civilian territories causes the declined of support from the civilians. The guerrilla tactics used by the Viet cong causes the massive casualties to the American forces, which in return triggers the US military to bomb areas they doubted as Viet cong base and hideouts. An estimated that 65,000 North Vietnamese Civilians died from 1960-1975. Furthermore, he estimates that in the 1957 to 1975 period the North Vietnamese government executed around 50,000 North Vietnamese civilians (most were executed by 1960).
The Vietnamese communist government in 1995 estimated that 2,000,000 Vietnamese civilians on both sides died in the war. Overall figures for North Vietnamese civilian dead range from 50,000 to several hundred thousand.

These kingdoms kept an army composed of ordinary infantrymen or unmounted knights, archers and different medieval artillery weapons, and lastly, the cavalry of mounted knights. Undeniably, during this time, quarrels and war between kingdoms were not a rare or unheard of occurrence. Their reasons may range from an action interpreted as an insult to their honor to a desire for territorial gain. The later reason is otherwise known as imperialism, which can also be linked to their constant battle for supremacy and prestige. Furthermore, this act own land grabbing is really based on the idea that having more land leads to more resources at their disposal and thereby gaining more power.
As such, European monarchial kingdoms inevitably be pitted against each other. Amongst all the kingdoms in Europe, there are only two countries who are said to be historically seen as “mortal enemies” and they are namely England which was (ruled by Henry V) and France (ruled by Charles d'Albret). They were recognized as such because of their hostilities against each other, whether intended or unintended. Such animosity between them can be seen in the battles both nations engaged in the annals of history. The negotiations King Henry said that he would give up his claim to the French throne if: 1) the French would pay the 1.6 million crowns outstanding from the ransom of John II who was captured at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356 and 2) concede English ownership of the lands of Normandy, Touraine, Anjou, Brittany and Flanders, as well as Aquitaine and lastly, that he would marry Princess Catherine, the young daughter of Charles VI, and receive a dowry of 2 million crowns. The French responded with what they considered the generous terms of marriage with Princess Catherine, a dowry of 600,000 crowns, and an enlarged Aquitaine. This battle was is quite famous and historically notable because of the decisive English victory over the French army despite beings numerically out numbered in both infantry and knights. In fact according to the numerical fact stated by the internet site Wikepedia, their data of the strength of both rival armies are the following: the English only had 6,000 to 9,000 men and about ⁵⁄₆ longbow archers, ¹⁄₆ dismounted knights and men-at-arms in heavy armour, while the French had 36,000 (outnumbering the English 6–1) to 12,000 (outnumbering the English 4-3). And about 10,000 knights and men-at-arms (of which about 1,200 were mounted), unknown thousands of other infantry, crossbowmen and archers. It can be said that the win was due to superb battle tactics and placement of troops and the right placement in the battlefield and most important factor in their victory were the Longbow men. The reason being is because the usual bow used by most medieval armies at the time were either crossbows or a short bow, but in comparison to the English Longbow, they are truly outclassed in a lot of areas. These advantages are the following: 1) the type of wood used to make a long bow is not ordinary timber but a certain type of wood that is durable and can be bent a lot farther and, 2) that in turn gives the long bow more power, and range which is a lot less when it comes to the short bow and crossbow, 3) unlike the crossbow its rearming time is half of what it takes to rearm a crossbow and strike. The casualties of the French were grave reaching 7,000–10,000 (mostly killed) and about 1,500 noble prisoners due to their overconfidence and lack of real battle tactics. This also gave way to the fame and fear of the English long bow men because it was because of them and the advantage in positioning in the terrain of the battlefield the Knights of the French army was decimated even before they reached the position held by the Englishmen. Those Knights that weren’t killed in their cavalry charge either retreated or were captured. Henry V’s victory started a new period in the war, during which Henry married the French king's daughter and his son, Henry VI, was made heir to the throne of France. This was clearly a case that it’s not always having superior numbers that solely dictates the battle, but just as equally as important is having a superior weapon and positioning in the battlefield as part of your battle tactics.

Their actions towards that goal of unifying or dominating the whole of Asia was hindered by the presence of foreign military forces in the Philippines (United States), Hong Kong, Malaysia (United Kingdom) and the Dutch East Indies. Central to successfully realizing their goal of taking all Asian lands was to attack simultaneously the US, UK, and Dutch forces to prevent their ability to reinforce and aid their Asian possessions. After pondering on the idea of declaring war against three big armies, they considered the fact that both the Dutch and British were tied up with the war in Europe, the U.S. was then viewed as an opportunity by the Japanese to extend their "rightful" place as a ruler in Asia. After the declaration of war by Japan against the United States, the Commonwealth of the Philippines which had strategic American bases in the country was invaded by the Empire of Japan in December 1941. With the aftermath of the attack in pearl harbor and damaging or sinking a lot of warships, the combined American – Filipino army after Gen. Douglas McArthur left and made his famous promise “I shall be back” was defeated via a notice of surrender by the commanding officer in Corregidor because their ammunition, medical and food supplies ran out, and sickness was spreading among the men left fighting for a lot of dead soldiers were rotting and not yet buried. Before surrendering the commanding general announced to his men of the intended surrender, a lot of Filipino soldier were not in favor of that plan, they were willing to fight to the last man using anything they could use as a weapon, in an interview showcase by discovery channel regarding the battle of Corregidor, one reason cited by a Filipino veteran was the fact that the Filipino’s are sick and tired of being colonized by another colonial master, remembering the Spanish colonial rule in the country. Despite their opinion on the matter it was an inevitable choice that the commander had to make. Due to the huge number of islands, the Japanese did not occupy them all. Japanese control over the countryside and smaller towns was often tenuous at best. In fact the Filipino resistance was a great help in providing vital intel to the Americans in eventually defeating the Japanese forces in 1944 and liberated the Philippines. Filipino heroism, bravery and love for country was truly a prevailing theme in every individual. They continued to fight the Japanese despite the hindrances that came their way which gave way to a very important effect they had was that they gave hope to everyone in the country and to holding on to the promise of Gen. Douglas McArthur to return and liberate the Philippines. After the war, Filipino veterans were recognized for their bravery and self-sacrifice for the country, as such they were promised certain benefits due to them. The Philippine Navy is ready to deploy their new flagship BRP Gregorio Del Pilar its the biggest and most modern ship to date for the Philippine Navy. The Gregorio Del Pilar is scheduled to be commissioned on December 14 at the Manila South Harbor Pier 13, with President Benigno Aquino III leading the ceremony.

The Navy vessel's name is from one of the youngest generals who fought in the Philippine Revolution against colonial Spain. He was killed in the famed Battle of Tirad Pass during the Philippine-American War at age 24.
The Gregorio Del Pilar is a weather high endurance cutter which the Philippine Navy acquired from the US Coast Guard last July. It is armed and combat-ready.

Based on many historical books, that aerial combat is not new, in fact it was seen during first World War, according to many theorists at that time, that to win a war requires a great aerial supremacy! When we say supremacy are we talking about numbers or techniques?

Dog fighting first was experienced during World War 1, that is after the invention of the airplane, and has since became a component on every major war. Modern terminology for air-to-air combat is air combat maneuvering (ACM), which refers to tactical situations requiring the use of individual basic fighter maneuvers (BFM) to attack or evade one or more opponents. This differs from aerial warfare, which deals with the strategy involved in planning and executing various missions.

So it before and now! Aerial combat is not about numbers but it all about techniques and powerful maneuvers to go for a kill. And that is something very hot to talk about.

Battle of Salamis

The great naval battle of Salamis was fought among the Greeks and Persians in 480 BC in the narrow strait between Salamis and Attica. This was one of the last battles of the Persian Wars. The Greek forces were led by Themistocles, an Athenian statesman, who was responsible for devising the strategy used during the battle. Although Themistocles came up with the strategy to lure the Persians into the strait, he was not the general who carried it out. This was done by Eurybiades, a Spartan commander. The Persian forces were led by Xerxes, Darius' successor.

Strategy:

Themistocles used the lighter Greek ships rowed out in a spherical formation and rammed the front of their ships into the lumbering Persian vessels. They have also constantly "threw darts and stones upon the men. The Greek war galleys were specifically intended for this kind of fighting- long and slender, crowded with rowers beneath and soldiers on the light upper deck." With his used of this attack plan, about two hundred ships were sunk, several were captured and the rest retreated back to Asia Minor.

Battle of Lepanto

Took place on the 7th of October 1571, when an armada of the Holy League, an alliance of Spain (including its territories of Naples, Sicily and Sardinia), the Republic of Venice, the Papacy, the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Savoy, the Knights Hospitaller and the rest, determinedly crushed the focal fleet of the Ottoman Empire.

The long five-hour skirmish was fought at the northern edge of the Gulf of Patras, off western Greece, where the Ottoman navy seafaring westwards from their naval location in Lepanto met the Holy League forces, which had arrived from Messina. Victory gave the Holy League provisional control over the Mediterranean, sheltered Rome from invasion, and prohibited the Ottomans from advancing further into Europe. Lepanto was the final major naval battle fought approximately between oar-powered galleys, and has been assigned grand symbolic significance ever since then.

The Ottoman fleet suffered in the defeat of about 210, 117 ships of the galleys, 10 fustas galliots and three were captured. The Holy League 20 galleys were destroyed and 30 were gravely damaged so they had to be scuttled. A Venetian galley was the only trophy of the Turks kept, everything else is deserted by them and recaptured.
Uluj Ali, who captured the flagship of the Maltese Knights, succeeded in extricating most of its ships from the battle when defeat was sure. Although he has cut the Maltese flagship pulling to get away, he sailed to Constantinople, gathering up the other Ottoman ships along the way and finally arriving there on 87 vessels. He has presented a large Maltese flag with the Sultan Selim II bestowed upon him its honorary title of "kιlιç" (Sword); Uluj thus became known as the Kılıç Ali Pasha.

Twenty-seven British ships of the line commanded by Admiral Lord Nelson aboard HMS Victory crushed thirty-three French and Spanish ships of the line under French Admiral Pierre Villeneuve off the south-west coast of Spain, just west of Cape Trafalgar. The Franco-Spanish armada lost twenty-two ships, devoid of a single British vessel being lost.

The British victory outstandingly established the naval superiority that Britain had well-known throughout the past century and was achieved in part through Nelson's departure from the customary naval tactical orthodoxy, which concerned engaging an enemy fleet in a single line of battle parallel to the enemy to make possible signaling in battle and disengagement, and to maximize fields of fire and target areas. CONFLICT OVER SPRATLY ISLAND: the Philippine perspective

World War Stories - In International relations, there has always been some form of inevitable conflict between two or more nations. One such form of conflict is territorial disputes, where two or more states argue and contend sovereignty over a piece of land or area, the reasons for their claims are varied and may range from ancestral domain or historically occupied by their race or predominantly the same culture to the disputed islands as being inclusive of their territorial boundaries. An example of such is the conflict over the Spratly islands which are located near the South China Sea and near Palawan.

The claimants to these islands are namely: Brunei as part of Brunei's Exclusive Economic Zone, the People's Republic of China as part of Hainan province; Malaysia as part of the state of Sabah; the Philippines as part of Palawan province; and the Republic of China (Taiwan) as part of Kaohsiung municipality, and lastly, Vietnam as part of Khánh Hòa Province. This dispute is quite complex because all claimants have a valid argument which is why up to now there has not been a clear cut decision on who is truly the valid sovereign. As a resolution to avoid war and animosity, all nations concerned decided that they would jointly cooperate in its development and equal sharing of whatever natural / oil resources that may be discovered in the area. Although in recent years there have been some violations to this agreement, like the building of an oil rig by the Chinese guarded by modern naval battleships. They even shooed away Filipino fishermen who were fishing nearby. Sad to say we cannot really coerce by force the Chinese because of our ill equipped military forces. The only solution is through diplomacy with the help of the U.N. and hopefully binding treaties which will be binding to all parties concerned. It is my belief that we do have sovereignty over the Spratly islands since it is within the bounds of the internationally recognized EEZ or exclusive economic zone which is considered to be part of one’s territory as stated by President Aquino in his recent comment regarding this matter. But the fact still remains that the law among nations are subject to interpretation and no real body that defines them and polices such laws. As such, the most viable option is through the U.N. to employ pressure, coercion, and even sanctions if necessary to ensure that no violations occur and that the peace and stability of the region is maintained.

World War Stories- The war in Afghanistan was caused by the occurrence of 9/11 which took a lot of lives and destroyed one of the symbols of American capitalism, and since it is known to be the stronghold of the Taliban which is connected to Osama Bin Laden and the Al Qaeda terrorist group. It does prompt the question is it really necessary to invade another country given the possible implications of such a war? Doesn’t it violate International Laws? Is the crusade for justice for the 9/11 justifiable? Let’s take a look at both sides of the coin for a minute.

There are some that say that when America went to war in Afghanistan is a violation of set International laws on sovereignty and non-aggression. For they may have been other diplomatic options available to the United States like economic and trade sanctions, diplomatic protest and other legal remedies to coerce the Taliban in surrendering the masterminds and those involved of the 9/11 terror attack. More importantly is that, the human and infrastructure collateral damage that this country will sustain, even how “minimal” it is may be unacceptable. The physical and psychological trauma, the lives lost regardless of gender and labeled as collateral damage or that margin of error that can be committed. And lastly, the economic effects of this war are a steep price to pay since the battleground is in Afghanistan itself. On the other hand, the deaths of those killed in the attack in New York, must also be given the justice they deserve by letting those criminals involved pay for their heinous crime. Furthermore, that attack done by Al Qaeda, in U.S. soil can be considered as an act of war, and as such the U.S. must defend its citizens, its territory, and its interest’s with all that is available to them. Although, it can also be said that the U.S. retaliation and “invasion” of Afghanistan was a two prong plan, it was not just guns and bullets but the U.S. did recognize that they have a certain moral obligation to help rebuild the lives of the people and their society in general. Inspite the fact that wars are undesirable and costly, the mobilization and deployment of U.S. troops to go to war was inevitable, based on the role that they play in the international arena, as a sovereign seeking justice for its citizens killed, and the apparent need to address these terror groups plaguing many countries. Also, due to the threat of local and international terrorism throughout the world, either ideological or political, there is indeed a need to combat these insurgencies; it is therefore a justified act by the U.S. In fact this was supported by majority of the member countries in the international community. The United States being the only super power in the world has indeed a certain responsibility to lead and assist other countries in combating terrorism. This is vital role because: citing one of the very foundations of the creation of the United Nations is to maintain world peace so that the atrocities’ during WWI and WWII would never happen again. It is my opinion that the greater good should always prevail in terms of how states should act in dealing with crimes and of their interactions.

Although, this may be the case, one can argue that there is a need for government’s to combat such insurgents in order to achieve the greater good, the common good in one’s sovereignty. Moreover, to fight these insurgents / terrorists will also mean that eventually it’ll give the country political stability which is also good in terms of encouraging investments from other countries. In the Philippines, one such extremist group is the ABU SAYYAF. Since their inception, they have wreaked havoc in Philippine society, conducting kidnappings, and vicious murders in the guise their Jihad. But this belief is extreme and at the very least a wrong understanding of the Koran according to some Muslim scholars for the Koran does not condone inhuman violence or violence in general. As such, there is an urgent need to quash this terrorist group with the full force of the law, but since they are more equipped and highly armed compared to our police and army, plus the fact that they do have sympathizers that help them in various ways, thus making it difficult to quickly deal with them. In fact, throughout the years the Philippine government has failed in eliminating such a threat to society. Due to the threat they pose, it is my belief that it is a viable option for us to acquire the assistance of the United States in dealing with such criminal elements because they can help us in various ways such as in terms of logistics, weapons, and intelligence regarding the movement and the members of the Abu Sayaf, all of which are crucial in winning any battle. It is high time that we seriously deal with them and allow Mindanao to achieve peace and thereby begin to progress and uplift the lives of the people there. One prevalent thing in modern societies is the emergence of extremists and terrorism which wreaks chaos in localities they emerged. Although the term terrorism is still highly debated because of the fact that one’s terrorist may be another’s freedom fighter. Although, this may be the case, one can argue that there is a need for government’s to combat such insurgents in order to achieve the greater good, the common good in one’s sovereignty. Moreover, to fight these insurgents / terrorists will also mean that eventually it’ll give the country political stability which is also good in terms of encouraging investments from other countries. In the Philippines, one such extremist group is the ABU SAYYAF. Since their inception, they have wreaked havoc in Philippine society, conducting kidnappings, and vicious murders in the guise their Jihad. But this belief is extreme and at the very least a wrong understanding of the Koran according to some Muslim scholars for the Koran does not condone inhuman violence or violence in general. As such, there is an urgent need to quash this terrorist group with the full force of the law, but since they are more equipped and highly armed compared to our police and army, plus the fact that they do have sympathizers that help them in various ways, thus making it difficult to quickly deal with them. In fact, throughout the years the Philippine government has failed in eliminating such a threat to society. Due to the threat they pose, it is my belief that it is a viable option for us to acquire the assistance of the United States in dealing with such criminal elements because they can help us in various ways such as in terms of logistics, weapons, and intelligence regarding the movement and the members of the Abu Sayyaf, all of which are crucial in winning any battle. It is high time that we seriously deal with them and allow Mindanao to achieve peace and thereby begin to progress and uplift the lives of the people there. ^{courtesy from www.biodiesel-fuel.co.uk}know that the process of making biodiesel is known as transesterification and is achieved by adding methanol to vegetable oil. The process requires a catalyst to increase the rate of the chemical reaction between the methanol and vegetable oil. The catalyst used in the creation of biodiesel is an alkaline one, either Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide.

When the process is complete the catalyst can be recovered unaffected by the chemical reaction that it accelerated, along with the glycerol separated from the vegetable oil.

f waste vegetable oil is used then we have another situation to deal with. Waste vegetable oil will have been been reheated several times during the course of its usage. The reheating will cause some of the fatty acids bonded to the glycerol to break away and float freely in the vegetable oil - hence the name Free Fatty Acid (FFA). There are two ways of dealing with free fatty acids:

Esterify the FFAs creating methyl esters then proceeding with the transesterification.
Increase the amount of catalyst in the single transesterifaction process so that the additional catalyst neutralises the FFAs creating soap as an additional by-product.

Option 1 is used in the commercial production of biodiesel, but for smaller scale production option 2 is favoured as it reduces the complexity of the process. Following option 2, we would have to perform a titration on a sample of the waste vegetable oil in order to calculate the amount of additional catalyst required to neutralise the FFAs.

The additional catalyst would then react with the FFAs creating soap in the process.

Like the catalyst, this excess methanol will be left over after completion of the reaction.

Step by Step from the Top

The commencement of the production process depends upon the type of oil employed, and whether it is fresh oil or used oils from the catering industry. In the case of the latter, a titration process takes place, the result of which determines the proportions of methanol to sodium hydroxide used in the preparation of the reaction catalyst. (Inadequate or omitted titration on used vegetable oil is the single biggest cause of fatty deposits in fuel filters).
There are then the following steps in the process of producing the biodiesel:

Filtration of inbound waste oil
Drying the fuel (i.e. removing water content, especially in the case of used oils)
Transesterification (specifically, the separation of the methyl esters from the glycerol)
Settling period
Separation of the biodiesel fuel from the glycerine layer [containing glycerol, catalyst, soap and methanol]
Washing the biodiesel fuel
Filtration to 5 microns
Drying the fuel again
Final products of biodiesel fuel and the by-products

Virgin oil feedstock; rapeseed and soybean oils are most commonly used, soybean oil alone accounting for about ninety percent of all fuel stocks in the US. It also can be obtained from field pennycress and Jatropha other crops such as mustard, flax, sunflower, palm oil, hemp (see List of vegetable oils for a more complete list);
Waste vegetable oil (WVO);
Animal fats including tallow, lard, yellow grease, chicken fat, and the by-products of the production of Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil.
Algae, which can be grown using waste materials such as sewage and without displacing land currently used for food production.

Many advocates suggest that waste vegetable oil is the best source of oil to produce biodiesel, but since the available supply is drastically less than the amount of petroleum-based fuel that is burned for transportation and home heating in the world, this local solution does not scale well.
Animal fats are similarly limited in supply, and it would not be efficient to raise animals simply for their fat. However, producing biodiesel with animal fat that would have otherwise been discarded could replace a small percentage of petroleum diesel usage. Currently, a 5-million dollar plant is being built in the USA, with the intent of producing 11.4 million litres (3 million gallons) biodiesel from some of the estimated 1 billion kg (2.3 billion pounds) of chicken fatproduced annually the local Tyson poultry plant

Quantity of feedstocks required

Worldwide production of vegetable oil and animal fat is not yet sufficient to replace liquid fossil fuel use. Furthermore, some object to the vast amount of farming and the resulting fertilization, pesticide use, and land use conversion that would be needed to produce the additional vegetable oil. The estimated transportation diesel fuel and home heating oil used in the United States is about 160 million tonnes (350 billion pounds) according to the Energy Information Administration, US Department of Energy . In the United States, estimated production of vegetable oil for all uses is about 11 million tonnes (24 billion pounds) and estimated production of animal fat is 5.3 million tonnes (12 billion pounds).
If the entire arable land area of the USA (470 million acres, or 1.9 million square kilometers) were devoted to biodiesel production from soy, this would just about provide the 160 million tonnes required (assuming an optimistic 98 gpa of biodiesel). This land area could in principle be reduced significantly using algae, if the obstacles can be overcome. The US DOE estimates that if algae fuel replaced all the petroleum fuel in the United States, it would require 15,000 square miles (38,849 square kilometers), which is a few thousand square miles larger than Maryland, or 1.3 Belgiums, assuming a yield of 15000 gpa. The advantages of algae are that it can be grown on non-arable land such as deserts or in marine environments, and the potential oil yields are much higher than from plants.

Yield

Feedstock yield efficiency per acre affects the feasibility of ramping up production to the huge industrial levels required to power a significant percentage of national or world vehicles. Some typical yields in US gallons of biodiesel per acre are:

Algae: 1800 gpa or more (est.- see soy figures and DOE quote below)
Palm oil: 508 gpa
Coconut: 230 gpa
Rapeseed: 102 gpa
Soy: 59.2-98.6 gpa in Indiana(Soy is used in 80% of USA biodiesel)
Peanut: 90 gpa
Sunflower: 82 gpa

Algae fuel yields have not yet been accurately determined, but DOE is reported as saying that algae yield 30 times more energy per acre than land crops such as soybeans. and some estimate even higher yields up to 15000 gpa .
The Jatropha plant has been cited as a high-yield source of biodiesel but such claims have also been exaggerated. The more realistic estimates put the yield at about 200 gpa (1.5-2 tonnes per hectare). It is grown in the Philippines, Mali and India, is drought-resistant, and can can share space with other cash crops such as coffee, sugar, fruits and vegetables.

10: HMS Hood

HMS Hood spent the remainder of her service operating from Scapa Flow, occupying the North Sea and Atlantic from the menace of German surface raiders. The ship was old, overloaded, and burdened with an insufficient armoring arrangement. However, her great operational worth had acted through the 1930s to avert the Royal Navy from taking her out of service for a badly-needed modernization, and now it was too late. In May 1941, in company with the latest battleship Prince of Wales, she was sent out to look for the German battleship Bismarck, which had left Norway for the Atlantic. On the morning of 24 May, the two British capital ships met the enemy to the west of Iceland. In the resulting Battle of the Denmark Strait, one or more of Bismarck's fifteen-inch shells got into Hood's after magazines. They erupted in an enormous explosion. Hood sank in moments with all but three of her large crew, a result that shocked the entire Royal Navy, the British nation and the entire World..

9: French BB Jean Bart

On 8 November 1942, during Operation Torch, the French fleet in Casablanca was attacked by American warships and warplanes from the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-4). The Jean Bart went into a gun battle with the battleship USS Massachusetts (BB-59). The Jean Bart endured hits from numerous aerial bombs and 16 inch (406 mm) shells. On the 10th, the Jean Bart opened fire once more onto the cruiser USS Augusta, much to the shock of the American naval officers - who thought that the Jean Bart had been silenced by her serious damage. This gunfire drew battle from the warplanes of the USS Ranger, and the Jean Bart suffered two more hits by 500 lb bombs. These opened a drip in her hull, forcing her to be run aground by her Captain. Combat was over by that evening, and along with the rest of French forces in North Africa, she surrendered and then took sides with the Allies of the United States and the United Kingdom.

8. USS Tennessee (BB-43)

USS Tennessee (BB-43), the lead ship of her class of battleship, was the third ship of the United States Navy named in tribute of the 16th US state. For the period of World War II in the Pacific Theater, she was damaged during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 but was repaired and modernized. Tennessee took part in shore bombardments at the Aleutian Islands, Tarawa, the Philippine Islands, Okinawa and several other amphibious landings later in the war, and participated in the sinking of the Japanese battleship Yamashiro in the Battle of Surigao Strait. After the war, she was placed on reserve in the "mothball fleet" for several years, before being scrapped in 1959.

7. Battleship Roma (Italy)

Roma was commissioned into the Italian Navy in mid-1942, but by then Italy was already showing signs of a fuel scarcity, thus this great warship stay behind in port most often. As according to the secret Short Military Armistice signed on 3 Sep 1943 between General Dwight Eisenhower and Marshal Pietro Badoglio, the Italian fleet was to surrender to the Allies. After Italy declared her surrender in the evening of 9 Sep, an Italian fleet centered around battleships Roma (flagship of Admiral Carlo Bergamini), Vittorio Veneto, and Italia left La Maddalena. At 0800 next morning, the fleet was spotted by German reconnaissance, and Admiral Meendsen Bohlken reported to Berlin. Berlin's response was obvious in retrospect; the Italian fleet was to be smashed to deprive the Allies of usage of those ships. At 1400, German aircraft began appearing and dropped bombs, though all missed. At 1530, fifteen Do 217 attack aircraft began their attack rocket-propelled and guided bombs. At 1545, Roma was hit on the port side, amidships between 90mm AA gun mounts, piercing deck and side; the first hit reduced her speed to 10 knots. Five minutes shortly, she was hit by a second bomb between turret #2 and conning tower, causing a fire that exploded the main magazine, killing many men including Bergamini his staff. At 1612, she turned upside down, broke into two pieces, and sank. 1,350 officers and sailors were lost in the inferno.

6. KMS Admiral Graf Spee (Germany)

The Admiral Graf Spee was one of the most well-known German naval warships of World War II, along with the Bismarck. Her size was restricted to that of a cruiser by the Treaty of Versailles, but she was much more greatly armed than a cruiser due to ground-breaking weight-saving techniques employed in her construction.
She was sent to the Atlantic Ocean as a trade raider in 1939, where she sank nine Allied merchant ships, with a total tonnage of 50,089. Numerous British hunting groups were consigned to locate her, with three British, New Zealand and Australian cruisers finally tracking her down in December 1939. The Battle of the River Plate ensued, during which the Graf Spee was damaged. She docked for repairs in the neutral port of Montevideo, but was forced by international law to leave within 72 hours. Faced with what he believed to be overwhelming odds, the captain scuttled his ship rather than risk the lives of his crew.

5. Battleship Kongo (Japan)

Kongō was the Imperial Japanese Navy's first super-dreadnought type battle cruiser and the name-ship of her class, which also included the Hiei, Kirishima, and Haruna. She was upgraded to a battleship rating in the 1930s and served in several major naval operations during World War II before being sunk by enemy action in 1944.

The German battleship Bismarck was one of the most well-known warships of the World War II. The pilot ship of her class, named after the 19th century German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, Bismarck displaced more than 50,000 tonnes fully loaded and was the biggest warship then commissioned.
Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen left Gotenhafen (Gdynia) on the morning of 19 May 1941 for Operation Rheinübung, during which she was to have attempt to intercept and annihilate convoys in transit between North America and Great Britain. When Bismarck and Prinz Eugen attempted to break out into the Atlantic, the two ships were spotted by the Royal Navy and brought to battle in the Denmark Strait. During the short engagement, the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, flagship of the Home Fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, was sunk after several minutes of firing. Two days later, with Bismarck almost in reach of safer waters, Fleet Air Arm Swordfish biplanes launched from the carrier HMS Ark Royal torpedoed the ship and jammed her rudder, allowing heavy British units to catch up with her. In the ensuing battle on the morning of 27 May 1941, Bismarck was heavily attacked for almost two hours before sinking.

3. IJN Battleship Fuso

The Japanese battleship Fusō, was a part of the Imperial Japanese Navy, the pilot ship of the Fusō-class. She was laid down by the Kure Kaigun Koshō on 11 March 1912, launched on 28 March 1914 and finished on 18 November 1915. Her 356 mm (14 in) main gun turrets were placed in an unorthodox 2-1-1-2 style (with her sister ship Yamashiro having her third turret reversed when compared to Fusō) and with a funnel separating the middle turret placement. This display was not entirely successful as the armoured section was needlessly lengthened and the middle guns had trouble targeting. Nevertheless, Fusō's relatively fine hull form allowed her to reach a speed of 22 kn (41 km/h; 25 mph).

The AH-64 Apache is a four-blade, twin-engine combat helicopter with tandem cockpit for a crew of two. The Apache is a replacement to AH-1 Cobra. The AH-64 has the best feature for a combat chopper: a nose-mounted sensor suite for target acquisition and night vision systems. It is equipped with a 30-millimeter (1.2 in) M230 Chain Gun attached between the main landing gear, under the aircraft's forward fuselage. The AH-64 also carries a combination of AGM-114 Hellfire and Hydra 70 rocket pods on its hardpoints attached on stub-wing pylons. It also features double- and triple-redundant aircraft systems to enhance survivability for the aircraft and crew in battle, as well as improved crash survivability for the pilots.

2. EuroCopter Tiger (EC 655)

The Eurocopter Tiger is created from 80% carbon fiber reinforced polymer and Kevlar, 11% aluminum, and 6% titanium, which makes its body light and bullet proof. The rotors are made from fiber-plastic, which can hold to what ever combat damages and direct hit from ground attacks. The chopper has great protection against lightning and electromagnetic pulse through its embedded copper/bronze grid and copper bonding foil. The combat helicopter is installed with the following: AN/AAR-60 MILDS System ensuring radar warning, a laser warning system, and a missile launch/approach detector developed by EADSDE and all these gadgets are connected to a central processing unit. The chopper is equipped with a chin-mounted 30 mm gun turret and can carry 68 mm SNEB unguided rockets or 20 mm machine cannons for the fire support role and Mistral air-to-air missiles. For countermeasures the chopper carries radar/laser/missile launch/missile approach warning receivers and decoy launchers. This chopper is a 100% combat helicopter and it is proven in many war zones.

3. Mil Mi-24 HIND

The Mil Mi-24 is a huge helicopter gunship and troop transport chopper that can carry 8 personnel; it is used by over thirty nations. The body of this combat helicopter is well- armored and can handle direct hits from .50 calibers (12.7 mm) which includes the titanium rotor blades. The cockpit has more thick armor with titanium tub and can hold hits from 37mm cannon rounds. The attack and transport chopper is the replacement of older Mi-24 helicopters and modern versions will come by 2015. The chopper can carry fexible 12.7 mm Gatling guns with a maximum of 1,470 rounds and its fixed or flexible twin-barrel can handle handle 450 to 750 rounds of ammo. As such, government and society in general should unite to deal with such issues so as to eradicate or at the very least start decreasing the number of minors committing crimes.

World War Stories -Hitler's aggressiveness for territories started in 1936, when Hitler ordered his troops to invade the Rhineland. The Rhineland had been designated as a demilitarized zone by the Versailles Treaty ending World War 1. It was a high-risk endeavor for Hitler. The German troops were unprepared, poorly equipped and had orders to retreat if the French offered any resistance. In the end, the maneuver went smoothly without any hindrance. Encouraged by this result, Hitler went on to absorb Austria and the German dominated Sudetenland area of Czechoslovakia into the German Third Reich in 1938. In March of the next year he occupied the remainder of Czechoslovakia bolstered by the tepid response of Britain and France to his earlier excursions, Hitler set his sights on Poland.

However, British Prime Minister Chamberlain had come to the realization that Hitler's territorial ambitions could not be tempered by submitting to his demands. In March 1939 he declared that Britain guaranteed Poland's independence and vowed to come to her aid if attacked. France soon joined Britain in support of Poland.
Hitler was undeterred. On August 23, 1939 he stunned the world with the announcement that he had signed a non-aggression treaty with the Soviet Union. The German Fuhrer was now assured that he could invade Poland without fear of Russian interference.
The assault was originally scheduled to begin in the early morning hours of August 26th. However, on August 25th, Britain announced that her guarantee of Polish independence had been formalized by an alliance between the two countries. Hitler wavered and postponed his attack to September 1.
The Germans concocted a story of Polish troops crossing their border and firing on various installations. In supposed retaliation, German tanks rolled across the Polish border during the early hours of September 1, 1939. Tensions were running high throughout Europe. Britain and France began mobilization of their armies while Italy's Mussolini desperately tired to intervene with Hitler to forestall war. The British and French representatives met with German Foreign Minister Ribbentrop warning that they would fulfill their obligation to Poland and go to war if German forces did not withdraw from Polish territory.
At 9:00 on the morning of September 3, Sir Neville Henderson, Britain's ambassador to Germany, delivered an ultimatum stating that if hostilities did not stop by 11 AM, a state of war would exist between Great Britain and Germany. Germany did not respond and at 11:15 on the morning of September 3, 1939 Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain went on the radio to announce to the British people that they were at war with Germany.

Paul Schmidt was a translator in the German Foreign Ministry and present at the history-making events of those last days peace in Europe. The scene is the office of the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin. It is just after midnight on September 3, 1939 and the German juggernaut continues to slam its way into Poland. The Germans have not responded to an earlier British and French demand to withdraw its troops and a message is received stating that Sir Neville Henderson, the British Ambassador to Germany, wishes to meet with German Foreign Minister Ribbontrop. It is obvious to all that the Ambassador's message will probably mean war.
We join Schmidt's story as Ribbentrop decides that the translator should meet with the British ambassador alone:
"It was after midnight when the British Embassy telephoned to say that Henderson had received instructions from London to transmit a communication from his Government at 9 a.m., and that he asked to be received by Ribbentrop at the Foreign Office at that time. It was clear that this communication could contain nothing agreeable, and that it might possibly be a real ultimatum. Ribbentrop in consequence showed not the slightest inclination to receive the British Ambassador personally next morning. I happened to be standing near him.
'Really, you could receive the Ambassador in my place,' he said to me. 'Just ask the English whether that will suit them, and say that the Foreign Minister is not available at 9 o'clock.' The English agreed, and therefore I was instructed to receive Henderson next morning - that is, in five hours time, it being now 4 o'clock in the morning.
On Sunday, September 3rd, 1939, after the pressure of work over the last few days, I overslept, and had to take a taxi to the Foreign Office. I could just see Henderson entering the building as I drove across the Wilhelmsplatz. I used a side entrance and stood in Ribbentrop's office ready to receive Henderson punctually at 9 o'clock. Henderson was announced as the hour struck. He came in looking very serious, shook hands, but declined my invitation to be seated, remaining solemnly standing in the middle of the room.
'I regret that on the instructions of my Government I have to hand you an ultimatum for the German Government,' he said with deep emotion, and then, both of us still standing up, he read out the British ultimatum. 'More than twenty-four hours have elapsed since an immediate reply was requested to the warning of September 1st, and since then the attacks on Poland have been intensified. If His Majesty's Government has not received satisfactory assurances of the cessation of all aggressive action against Poland, and the withdrawal of German troops from that country, by 11 o'clock British Summer Time, from that time a state of war will exist between Great Britain and Germany.'
When he had finished reading, Henderson handed me the ultimatum and bade me goodbye, saying: 'I am sincerely sorry that I must hand such a document to you in particular, as you have always been most anxious to help.'
I too expressed my regret, and added a few heartfelt words. I always had the highest regard for the British Ambassador.
I then took the ultimatum to the Chancellery, where everyone was anxiously awaiting me. Most of the members of the Cabinet and the leading men of the Party were collected in the room next to Hitler's office. There was something of a crush and I had difficulty in getting through to Hitler.
When I entered the next room Hitler was sitting at his desk and Ribbentrop stood by the window. Both looked up expectantly as I came in. I stopped at some distance from Hitler's desk, and then slowly translated the British Government's ultimatum. When I finished, there was complete silence.
Hitler sat immobile, gazing before him. He was not at a loss, as was afterwards stated, nor did he rage as others allege. He sat completely silent and unmoving.
After an interval which seemed an age, he turned to Ribbentrop, who had remained standing by the window. 'What now?' asked Hitler with a savage look, as though implying that his Foreign Minister had misled him about England's probable reaction. Ribbentrop answered quietly: 'I assume that the French will hand in a similar ultimatum within the hour.'
As my duty was now performed, I withdrew. To those in the anteroom pressing round me I said: 'The English have just handed us an ultimatum. In two hours a state of war will exist between England and Germany.' In the anteroom, too, this news was followed by complete silence.
Goering turned to me and said: 'If we lose this war, then God have mercy on us!' Goebbels stood in a corner, downcast and self-absorbed. Everywhere in the room I saw looks of grave concern, even amongst the lesser Party people."

But a few could get a slot, there are a numerous training and requirements and only the best is given the price to become a combat Pilot. In World War 1 and World War 2 to become pilots screening were not very strict compared today. But when it comes to getting experience in air combat it is easy to find dogfights in World War 1 and World War 2.

Air Force pilot candidates begin with introductory flight training (IFT). In IFT, civilian instructors provide 50 hours of flight instruction to pilot candidates who must complete requirements for a private pilot license.

Pilot candidates then attend either Euro-NATO joint jet pilot training (ENJJPT) or joint specialized undergraduate pilot training (JSUPT).
ENJJPT is located at Sheppard AFB, TX. The entire course lasts about 54 weeks. Students learn with, and are taught by, U.S. Air Force officers and officers from various air forces of our European allies. Student pilots first fly the T-37 mastering contact, instrument, low-level and formation flying. Next, they strap on the supersonic T-38 and continue building the skills necessary to become a fighter pilot.
JSUPT students accomplish primary training in the T-37 Tweet at one of three Air Force bases – Columbus AFB, MS, Laughlin AFB, TX, or Vance AFB, OK; or in the T-34C Turbomentor at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, FL. Joint training is conducted at Vance AFB, OK, and NAS Whiting Field for students from the Air Force and Navy.
During the primary phase of JSUPT, students learn basic flight skills common to all military pilots.

The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program, formerly the Joint Advanced Strike Technology (JAST) Program, is the Department of Defense's focal point for defining affordable next generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and our allies. The focus of the program is affordability -- reducing the development cost, production cost, and cost of ownership of the JSF family of aircraft. Prior to the start of System Design and Development (SDD) in Fall 2001, the program facilitated the Services' development of fully
validated, affordable operational requirements, and it lowered risk by investing in and demonstrating key leveraging technologies and operational concepts. Upon SDD contract award to Lockheed Martin on 26 October 2001, the program embarked on full development of three affordable and effective JSF variants.
The JSF will fulfill stated Service needs as follows:
U. S. Navy First day of war, survivable strike fighter aircraft to complement F/A-18E/F
U.S. Air Force Multirole aircraft (primary-air-to-ground) to replace the F-16 and A-10 and complement the F-22A
U.S. Marine Corps STOVL aircraft to replace the AV-8B and F/A-18 as their only strike fighter

Air Combat Command
Air Combat Command (ACC), established 1 June 1992, with headquarters at Langley AFB, Va., operates Air Force bombers and CONUS-based, combat-coded fighter and attack aircraft. Organizes, trains, equips and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime air defense.
The creation of Air Combat Command (ACC) on 1 June 1992 resulted in part from dramatic changes in the international arena. The collapse of the former Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War led senior defense planners to conclude that the structure of the military establishment which had evolved during the Cold War years was not suited to the new world situation. The likelihood of a large-scale nuclear conflict seemed far more remote, but US military forces would increasingly be called upon to participate in smaller-scale regional contingencies and humanitarian operations.

Becoming a fighter pilot requires lots of time, dedication and perseverance if you want to be successful in your dream . A special type of person is required to join such an elite group. Most people think that becoming a fighter pilot is mostly about flying a fighter jet, when in fact that is not the priority first, but you need to become a well-trained officer first, even if you continue on to be a fighter pilot or not. As an officer your primary job is to defend the USA against its enemies, and any career aspirations are secondary to that.
There are three possible ways to train as an officer - service academy, Officer Candidate School (OCS) or Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). As a high school student, you should apply to a service academy if you want to become an officer. You can choose between the Air Force Academy, Annapolis (Navy & Marines), West Point (Army) or the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. All of them put you through rigorous military training, and you also obtain a Bachelor of Science degree. If you have a strong aptitude to advanced math and science then you'll have a much better chance of succeeding.
If you're planning to enter one of the academies, then be aware that the competition to get in is fierce. You'll need a high school grade point average of 3.8 as a cadet, as well as a SAT score of 1300. This has to include a minimum of 1050 for verbal and math. It's a good idea to have a strong extra-curricular activity record as well, even more so if those activities demonstrate leadership or athletic skills.
So if you want to enter a service academy, earn a commission and receive a college education, the path is simple. It's not easy though - you'll need to perform very well in high school, and not just inside the classroom. It takes a long time to work your way through the application process. You certainly don't just hand over a simple form and expect to be accepted into a service academy. You need three letters of recommendation, extensive paperwork, and even to be nominated by your Congressman. To improve your chances of success, start preparing your application early, and certainly don’t start any later than your junior year.
The bad news is that just because you made it into the service academy, pilot training slots are still extremely limited. Being accepted by the academy is a piece of cake by comparison. However pilots are in demand right now, as all the military streams are struggling to retain the pilots they have. So if you're keen to be a fighter pilot, it's a little easier than usual to obtain a slot. How long that lasts, nobody knows.
You might also find that The Reserve Officers Training Corps is the best option for you. With this, you study at a college or university as normal, but add in the officer training requirements. On top of your regular studies you will have to attend military training and courses, spend at least one summer on a training camp and attend weekly meetings. Most of the time you live as a civilian, only donning your military garb when you're actually attending military classes. When your officer training is complete, you can then apply for specific programs such as pilot training. Competition is tough, and you'll need to pass some rigorous academic, medical and testing requirements to be successful.
For those who decide a little later in life to become a fighter pilot, The Officer Candidate School (OCS), sometimes called The Officer Training School (OTS), is the best route. Within 4 months OCS will take a college graduate with no background in the military and turn him into an officer. Again, you have the opportunity to apply for pilot training school when you qualify as an officer, but the competition is just as fierce. It's also necessary for you to begin training as a fighter pilot before you turn 27, so this third option is only available for a limited time.

Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

World War Stories - World War 2 Fighter planes fought in every sky of Europe and Pacific and the Curtiss P-40 witnessed the war with great pride. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service.

American P-40s first saw action at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Of the 99 P-40Bs stationed in Hawaii that day, only seven managed to get airborne during the attack. They shot down five Japanese planes, including four -- two Nakajima B5N2 torpedo bombers, a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero fighter and an Aichi D3A1 dive bomber -- by 2nd Lt. George S. Welch of the 47th Squadron, 15th Pursuit Group. By the end of the day, however, only 25 P-40s remained operational. Three had been shot down, and the rest were destroyed on the ground.

In the Philippines, as in Hawaii, attrition was high -- 26 P-40s were destroyed on December 8, 1941, mostly because they were caught on the ground. Although initially shocked by the startling performance of the Zero fighters that faced them, the four squadrons of P-40s put up a gallant struggle against the Japanese invaders.
The first USAAC ace of World War II was 1st Lt. Boyd D. Wagner, a P-40E pilot of the 17th Squadron, 24th Pursuit Group, in the Philippines. During a surprise attack on the Japanese army's 50th Sentai, newly arrived at Aparri airfield on December 12, Wagner was attacked by four Nakajima Ki.27 fighters. He evaded two, then suddenly cut his throttle to make the other two overshoot him and shot down both. After strafing five to seven Japanese planes on the ground, Wagner was attacked by three more Ki.27s but managed to shoot down two of them and then escaped. He was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, as was 1st Lt. Russell M. Church, Jr., who was shot down in flames and killed by anti-aircraft fire in the course of the raid. Wagner repeated his performance at Vigan field on December 16, hitting eight enemy planes on the ground and shooting down a Ki.27 that managed to take off, for his fifth victory in as many days. By then, however, there were too few of the Curtiss fighters available to do more than delay the inevitable. Lacking spare parts and replacement aircraft, the Americans were overwhelmed by May 1942.

Thomas L. Hayes, who flew P-40Es with the 35th Pursuit Group, was originally supposed to go to Mindanao, but when his squadron was unable to reach the Philippines it was diverted to Java in mid-January 1942. "The water-cooled Allison...moved the center of gravity forward," Hayes recalled. "The P-40 was much heavier than the P-36, and visibility was somewhat restricted with that extended nose. The P-40 also had more difficult landing characteristics than the P-36 -- its greater weight, combined with the narrow landing gear and long nose, gave it a greater tendency to ground loop."
"The most serious deficiency in my training was gunnery," he added. "The only time I had squeezed the trigger was strafing an oil slick dropped in the Pacific. Tactics were a close second. We were indebted to our veterans, who told us, 'You're not going to turn and fight with a Zero -- you won't live to tell about it.' Tactics were hit and run -- if one had the altitude on a Zero, one could dive and get him. But engagements usually began with the Japanese above the P-40s -- they threw the first punch."

The P-40 initially proved quite effective against Axis aircraft and contributed to a slight shift of momentum in the Allied favor. The gradual replacement of Hurricanes by the Tomahawks and Kittyhawks led to the Luftwaffe accelerating retirement of the Bf 109E and introducing the newer Bf 109F; these were to be flown by the veteran pilots of elite Luftwaffe units, such as Jagdgeschwader 27 (JG27), in North Africa.
The P-40 was generally considered roughly equal or slightly superior to the Bf 109 at low altitude, but inferior at high altitude, particularly against the Bf 109F. Most air combat in North Africa took place well below 16,000 ft (4,900 m), thus negating much of the Bf 109's superiority. The P-40 usually had an edge over Bf 109 in horizontal maneuverability, dive speed and structural strength, was roughly equal in firepower, but was slightly inferior in speed and outclassed in rate of climb and operational ceiling.
The P-40 was generally superior to early Italian fighter types, such as the Fiat G.50 and the Macchi C.200. Its performance against the Macchi C.202 Folgore elicited varying opinions. Some observers consider the Macchi C.202 superior.^[29] Clive Caldwell, who scored victories against them in his P-40, felt that the Folgore would have been superior to both the P-40 and the Bf 109 except that its armament of only two or four machine guns was inadequate

They had the superiority in weapons on the early years of war and I believe if Hitler is not stubborn enough in following the advises of his military generals Germany could have ruled the world. World War 2 is far different from World War 1, the German military in World War 1 was not that well-equipped with superior weapons luckily their enemies had that same notion too.
Now talking about Infantry Weapons here are some of the powerful German Weapons that American forces suffered thousands of casualties.

Walther PP

If you are a James Bond fanatic, then this is his favorite hand gun. This is the standard sidearm of German Officers, State Personalities, and special forces during World War 2.
The weapon uses a 7.65 mm projectile, commonly, and operates via gas pressure causing blow-back and re-chambering. It is semi-automatic, and has a comparable pistol range (roughly 100 m effective at best).

Karabiner 98k

World War 2 - It was used primarily by forces of the German Army, though some limited naval use as well. This weapon is accurate and best in every German offensive. Though many claims that this weapon is inferior compared to the American's M1. But if you try to compare this weapon in precision and weight I go for this one.

This is one of the most awesome and handy weapons of the German Infantry. More importantly though, they fire pistol ammunition, and are automatic. High Volumes of fire from these and german machine guns allowed for maneuverability for infantry elements during the war.

The MG 42 has a proven record of reliability, durability, simplicity, and ease of operation, and is most notable for being able to produce a stunning volume of suppressive fire. The MG 42 has one of the highest average rates of fire of any single-barreled man-portable machine gun, between 1,200 and 1,500 rpm, resulting in a distinctive muzzle report. There were other automatic weapon designs with similar firepower, such as the French Darne, the Hungarian-Gebauer single-barreled tank MGs, the Russian 7.62mm ShKAS aircraft gun and the British Vickers K machine gun. However, the MG 42's belt-feed and quick-change barrel system allowed for more prolonged firing in comparison to these weapons.In terms of Doctrine, the weapon was used primarily as a Light Machine Gun, though it broached the upper end towards a medium machine gun.
