World War I - Battle of Verdun Rare Pictures of War

The Battle of Verdun was one of the most brutal battles in World War I - between the Germans and French Army. It was considered as the longest battle with over 700000 casualties. 163,000 French and 143,000 German combatants died on the battlefield plus almost half a million wounded soldiers.  According to many historians there were an average of 32,000 killed for every ten months in battle. It was the longest and one of the most devastating battles in the First World War and the history of warfare.  Many had died not on their first day of combat, the battle of Verdun was also the time that shows the battle of aces in the skies. German aces such as the Red Baron shows his prowess in combat during The Battle of Verdun.
